Michael Jennings Goodrum of Wilmington, NC passed peacefully on July 30, 2023, after an extended illness. Mike was predeceased by his parents Bill and Ruth Goodrum, and is survived by his sister Teresa G Carver (Wayne); his nieces Rachel Bailey (David) and Bridget Tucker Ramsey (Sarah); and best friend Robin Stokes (Cindy)
and their families.
Mike was a native Wilmingtonian, born at James Walker Hospital, and attended Laney High School. Mike was always active and cared about people and his community. He joined the Wrightsboro Volunteer Fire Department as soon as he was old enough and later worked on the Fire Brigade at Corning where he was employed. Mike loved to travel and moved to California for about 15 years after school, but returned home in 1993. He was employed at Corning for a few years but the layoffs were frequent, so he decided to attend Cape Fear CC and graduated in 2006 as a Registered Nurse. Mike combined his 2 loves – helping people and traveling – and became a travel nurse where he met lots of friends and helped many people. He always had fun at the annual conventions in Las Vegas!
The family would like to thank Dr. David Richardson of Coastal Internal Medicine and the staff for their years of support and care. We would also like to thank the staff at Novant Health ICU who made his transition so loving and peaceful for his family and friends.
