Michiel Edgar Christian Chapman

Memorial Gifts & Donations

Michiel (Michael) Edgar Christian Chapman passed away suddenly Sunday, July 23 in Wilmington, North Carolina, where he resided for the past 5 years. The beloved son of Natascha Chapman, and Ralph Edward Chapman (deceased), Michael was 56 years old.

It was hard to miss the essential compassion and good-natured warmth in Michael, and his charismatic spirit touched those who met him briefly or knew him for a long time. He had an instinctive impulse to give of himself and would often do so on a moment’s notice. Michael found comfort and direction in giving to less fortunate souls, freely donating his time to homeless shelters and other helping organizations. He strived to follow as a faithful servant for God’s love, seeking fellowship, solace and strength in faith communities.

Michael loved working the earth and was drawn to gardening and landscaping. He sought a meaningful life of service and found joy in the simple offering of his labor where it could make other lives better, if even for a moment.

Michael is survived by his mother Natascha Chapman, who loved and selflessly supported him for much of his life; by two sons Joshua Francis and Jason Michiel Chapman of Tampa, Florida; and by his sister Virginia Chapman Belser, of State College, Pennsylvania.

The Chapman family will be holding a private memorial of Michael Chapman’s life in Wilmington, North Carolina. Offerings in memory of Michael Chapman can be made to the College Scholarship Fund supporting Joshua and Jason Chapman, whose mother Karen Shea passed away in 2011. Donations can be sent in care of Joshua Chapman, 825 Wymore Road, Apartment 6D, Altamont Springs, Florida 32714.

    Beth Tyson says:
"God so loved the world, including us, that He sent His only begotten son that if we just believe in Him, we shall not perish." John 3:16 This was one of Michael's favorite Bible verses and one he quoted often. Michael Chapman had a huge heart and found great meaning in helping others. He was very dear to me and will remain in my heart. "I adore you," Michael. The following songs remind me of Michael: "There Will Be a Day-Jeremy Camp "Oh, My Soul"-Casting Crowns "Whole Heart"-Brandon Heath "Amazing Grace"-Chris Tomlin
