Mildred C. Kivett, age 85, passed Monday September 10, 2012 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter.

She was born August 9, 1927. Mildred spent her childhood years at the Methodist Children’s Home in Winston Salem NC, which she loved dearly, and the majority of her adult life in Greensboro, NC. She retired to Holden Beach with her dearly loved husband of 63 years, Rossie.

Mildred worked as a switchboard operator and was known as the “Voice of Guilford County”. She was a longtime member of Glenwood UMC and the homemakers club at Rehobeth UMC. She was also a leader for both Cub Scout and Girl Scout troops.

Mildred was well known in her Holden Beach Community as a loving neighbor, passionate fisher-woman and avid sports fan. She was often seen walking with her best buddy and loyal companion, dog “Rylee”.

Mildred was preceded in death by the love of her life Ross Kivett and their beloved daughter Sharon Martin. Survivors include son Steven Melton Kivett and son Douglas Ross Kivett and his wife Janice, five grandchildren and 7 great grand children.

A memorial service will be held at the Holden Beach Chapel, 107 Rothschild St., Holden Beach at 2 pm on Friday, September 14th. The family will receive friends afterward at the home of her son Doug at 140 Tuna Drive, Holden Beach.
