Miriam Moore Smith passed with peace and grace August 23, 2017, Trinity Grove, Wilmington, NC, at the age of 90.

Miriam is preceded in death by her loving husband Benjamin, 2016,  first husband Waylon, 1991, and son, Clifton 2006 and brothers Darrell, Mac,  and Robert Mumford.  Miriam is survived by daughter  Shirley Bernades and her son Scott Phillips and  his wife Kelly; son Clifton’s daughters Angela McLeod and Devon Moore;  daughter Linda Rhodes and husband Jordan; daughter Jackie Nolan and husband Robbie, four great grandchildren and sister Nell Mumford Uwell (Ruben) and brother Ray Mumford.

Miriam was born July 19, 1927 in Pitt County,  NC, to parents Orvis and Agnes Mumford.  She attended Eastern Carolina Teaching College and in 1947 married Waylon Moore September 4, 1947.  After residing at several locations they  settled in Wilmington, NC in 1971. In the early 1990’s, Miriam studied to become a Certified Nursing Assistant.  She was a loving mother, grandmother and homemaker and served Masonboro Baptist Church with joy.  She enjoyed working for the census bureau, playing  bridge, participating in water aerobics, and  shopping.

Funeral service will be Sunday, August 27, 2017, at Masonboro Baptist Church, Wilmington, NC at 1:00 pm. Rev. Gordon Wright and Rev. Larry Knowles  will officiate the ceremony.  All are welcome to attend and celebrate Miriam’s life.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Masonboro Baptist Church, 1501 Beasley Road, Wilmington NC 28409. The family would like to thank Trinity Grove for their loving care.
