Beverly Anne Barnett (Moody) passed away peacefully Monday January 23, 2023 at her home in Wilmington, North Carolina at the age of 79.
Anne was predeceased by her parents, Claude and Harriet; Stepmother, Douglas. Anne is survived by her brother Tom (Shirley) Moody, stepbrother Jim (Donna) Billings, sons, Jason with
his daughters, Ellie and Grace, Cameron (Marcela) with his daughters, Kierstin, Krystal, and Kaylie.
Anne’s passions in life were her faith, family and friends, camping, reading, music, traveling, playing bridges, and lifelong learning.
Anne was born March 10, 1943, in Durham, North Carolina. She spent her childhood there, with her brother Tom. As a teen, she began playing the pipe organ, and played for her church. She attended the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Nursing in 1965. She began working as an RN, including spending a year in California, before returning to UNC to complete a Master of Science degree in Nursing in 1971. She later settled in Washington, DC and began working at St. Elizabeth’s psychiatric hospital. While there she met Dickson Barnett.
Anne married Dick in 1974 and they moved to Rockville, Maryland. She put he career on pause to start a family. Jason was born in 1978 and Cameron followed in 1982. While keeping a home, she worked several part-time jobs including getting a real estate license. As the boys grew older, Anne returned to her career starting her own business, the Women’s Institute for Personal Growth. She later joined Dominion Hospital and worked there until the mid-nineties. In 1996, Anne and Dick followed a dream and moved their family to western New York to purchase Dream Lake Campground in Warsaw. She also began working for Wyoming County Community Hospital’s Behavioral Health unit in 1998 and soon became the Director of Behavioral Health Unit.
Anne divorced in 2006 and retired in 2009. She spent her early days of retirement traveling in a small RV around the east coast visiting family and friends. She also traveled to Europe and loved enjoying other cultures. In 2015, she returned to her home state of North Carolina to spend the rest of her retirement in Wilmington. In her waning years, she learned how to play the hammered dulcimer, traveling often to the mountains of NC for music camps. She loved spending time with her many friends there playing bridge, book clubs, dining out, and enjoying community events. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Anne’s life will be celebrated on March 11, 2023 at 2:00pm at the Wilmington Shrine Club. A separate
celebration in New York is being planned for May.
