Myrle Knowles Carr, 73, of Pender County died suddenly on Wednesday, July 24, 2013.
She was born in Sampson County, NC on September 6, 1939. Her parents were the late Gilbert Knowles and Clara Bryant Knowles.
Myrle was once an owner/operator of Merritt’s Burger House and the White Front Breakfast House until 1972. Myrle also enjoyed volunteering her time with the Lower Cape Fear Hospice during the 90’s. She was an excellent cook, a very loving and devoted mother to her three children and enjoyed loving on her grand and great-grandchildren. Myrle was the type of person who loved helping other people, but wanted no recognition for her kindness. She would give you the last dollar she had on her if you needed it.
Myrle is survived by her children, Kaye Merritt, Kim Merritt, Jim (Denise) Merritt; six grandchildren, Anthony (Mary Beth) Merritt, Michael Carr, Jr., Jacob Merritt, Makayla Merritt, Jackie Merritt; three great-grandchildren, Abby and Oliver Merritt and Liam Merritt.
Myrle was a longtime member of Lake Forest Baptist Church during the 60’s and 70’s. She was then a member of Azalea Baptist Church. Her faith in Christ was strong. She would tell you, “Like all of us, I’ve made mistakes in my life, but I know where I’m going when my time on earth is complete”.
There will be a casual memorial service held in her honor at Port City Community Church (PC3) at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, July 30th. Special emphasis on the word “casual”, as she would not won’t anyone to dress up for her memorial.
Special thanks to the Pender County Sheriff’s Department, Fire Department, EMS and District Attorney’s Office, as well as the NHC Sheriff’s Department, Wilmington Police Department. All of you were excellent!
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation.
