Neal Irving Kilian, age 89, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2014 at the Brunswick Cove Living Center in Leland, NC.

He was born September 24, 1925 to Roy and Mildred (Haller) Kilian.

He served in the Navy as a Quartermaster Third Class during WWII, surviving a kamikaze attack aboard his ship, the USS Ticonderoga.

Predeceased by his parents, his wife, June; Three sisters, Norma, Jean, Louine; Two brothers William and Lynn and grandson, Ryan.He is survived by his long-time partner, Florrie Pridgen; two sisters, Gloria and Shirley; Children, Leslie (Yvonne) Kilian, Larry (Carol) Kilian and Elaine (Fiancée Don Ruttan) Staebell; Grandchildren Jay (Leslie) Kilian, Amy (Steven) Pawlowski, Jennifer (Kevin) David, A.J. (Monique) Staebell and Katie (Charles) Lowry; Great grandchildren, Riley and Theo Kilian, Grace and Joshua Pawlowski, Abby and Brian David, and many beloved nieces, nephews and special friends.

Mr. Kilian lead a life filled with extraordinary endeavors. In addition to his military service, he was a self-employed and sought-after mason by trade, owned and operated a successful restaurant with his late wife, daughter and former son-in-law (Stuart), and was active in several real estate transactions. His hobbies included a love for fishing, bowling, storytelling, and sharing his zest for life with all who knew him. He never hesitated to teach his children and grandchildren the importance of family devotion, and promoted this ideal through his loving and generous nature.

Services will be held at the Wilmington Funeral & Cremation Village Road Memorial Chapel, 525 Village Road in Leland, NC, on Saturday, December 6th.

Visitation is from 2-3 pm with memorial service to follow from 3-4 pm. The service will include time for personal sharing of remembrance.
