Memorial Gifts & Donations

Ned Gibson Pearce, (Mr. Ned) passed away peacefully, September 11, 2018 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center after an extended illness. Ned was predeceased by his parents, Henry Anton and Naomi Littleton Pearce and 13 brothers and sisters. He has briefly left his wife of 27 years, Jean Thompson Pearce and is enjoying a happy reunion with lots of family and friends.

Ned and Jean enjoyed a blended family which included 7 children. Vickie Pearce Parker of Hampstead, Gina Pearce Britt (Gerry) of Summerville, SC, Edward Williams (Polly) of Lehi, Utah, Robert Williams (Barbi) of Wilmington, NC, Stephen Williams (Jill) of Logan, Utah, Sarah Wrubluski (Greg) of Kure Beach, NC and Alan Williams (Yasuko) of Portsmouth, VA. They also have 26 awesome grandchildren.

Ned retired from Martin Marietta Materials/Lockheed Martin as office manager after 37 years. He worked in several locations with the company and was transferred to Wilmington in 1969. He was instrumental in organizing Cape Fear Optimist Dixie Youth baseball in Wrightsboro. He was fondly recognized as Mr. Ned by the children he mentored and taught to play ball. Life on the water was also one of his favorite things and he and Jean spent many hours in their boat enjoying the waters around Wrightsville Beach. But Ned also loved golf. He decided to take a lesson from an LPGA golf professional. 2 years later Jean became his wife, best friend and partner on the golf course. They enjoyed playing golf in many locations. The joke is that, Ned took that golf lesson years ago and had to pay for it the rest of his life.

Ned may have been in darkness because of being partially, then totally blind for 15 years, but his light shone brightly because of his love of his Savior, Jesus Christ. He had a firm testimony of our Savior’s resurrection which gave him hope that he would have the blessing of being resurrected and reunited with his eternal family one day. He knew this to be true.

Due to Ned’s passing just prior to hurricane Florence and the difficulties that followed, a short graveside service was held at Oleander Memorial Gardens Saturday, September 22, 2018.

A memorial service will be held Friday evening, October 19, 2018 at 6:00 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 514 South College Road with Bishop Brian Pace officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation, 1414 Physicians Dr. Wilmington, NC 28401.
