Memorial Gifts & Donations

Nellie W. Baker passed on to her Lord on May 27, 2014 at Autumn Care, Wilmington, NC. Born in LeRaysville, PA on March 3, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Eugenia Warner.

Her much beloved husband David Baker, sister Joyce and brother Elmer predeceased Nellie.

She is survived by two nieces, Carolyn Doolittle and Jean Rich, and several grandnieces and nephews and her caregiver and special friend, Karel Dutton.

Nellie loved life, enjoyed extensive travel, and greatly loved her church family at Windermere Presbyterian Church in Wilmington. She had a long professional career at IBM, New York and also with the Congregational Church in New York City. Her last twenty-four years in Wilmington brought Nellie much pleasure taking organ lessons, going to classes at UNCW Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), playing bridge at the NHC Senior Center and being involved in Windermere Presbyterian’s many church activities. Her love of new learning was infectious. Nellie gave great pleasure to her family, friends and acquaintances with her generosity and humor. Autumn Care at Myrtle Grove is thanked for its special and loving care of Nellie these past four years, most particularly her nurses Meredith Montgomery, Sandra Jarvis, Tabitha Taylor, Tabitha Martin and aide, Lisa Harrelson.

A celebration of life will take place at the Windermere Presbyterian Church on Eastwood Rd at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 30, 2014 conducted by the Rev. Chris Carlisle and Rev. Walt Griffin.

In lieu of flowers, bequests can be made in Nellie’s memory to the music department of UNCW at 601 S. College Rd, to benefit undergraduate students.
