Noah W. Edgell, Jr. (Biff) October 17, 1926 – December 12, 2010. Biff passed away peacefully in his families home this weekend after a long battle with diabetes. He persevered for many years and enjoyed a long, fulfilling life with his family. He was born in Folsom, West Virginia, was a US Navy WWII veteran and raised his family in the Madison, Ohio area until 1971 when he was transferred to Wilmington with the Diamond Shamrock Corporation, which he retired from in 1985. During his retirement he continued to enjoy his passions for fishing, gardening and spending time with his family, even testing his hand at antiquing.

He was one of 13 children born to the late Noah and Armenia Edgell and was the beloved husband of MaryEllen McFarland Edgell for over 60 years. Biff will forever be remembered by his surviving siblings, Mabel Edgell Swiger, Betty Edgell Morris, Pauline Edgell Hardesty, Frances “Bud” Edgell, beloved children, Norah Edgell Kertis and husband Bob, Catherine Edgell, Deborah Edgell Reid and husband Michael, Richard Edgell and wife Cynthia Edgell, Scott Edgell and wife Cathy Goodman Edgell, Denise Edgell Hines and husband Jimmy, his treasured grandchildren, Justin Taylor, Jennifer Edgell-Garay, Heather Morgan, Cody Kertis, Matthew Kertis, Sebastion Reid, Kari-Anne Edgell Kertis, Zachary Reid, Mackenzie Hines, Ricky Edgell, Jacob Edgell, Amanda Hines, Caitlin Edgell, Caleb Edgell, Tyler Hines, Luke Edgell, and Hayden Hines, beloved great-grandchildren, Courtney Flynn, Noah Garay, Kayleigh Flynn, Ashley Flynn, Mya Kertis and great-great grandchild Marlie Houser along with countless other dear family and friends whom were blessed to know him.

Biff touched the lives of many people with his quiet manner and generosity, and maintained his loving, gentle and dignified character to the very end. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial mass on Friday, December 17th, 2010, at 12:30 pm at St. Marys Catholic Church, 412 Ann Street, Wilmington, NC 28403, with a repast to follow in the school cafeteria.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that a memorial donation be sent to the wonderful people and organization who gave such wonderful care to Biff and his family in their time of need, the Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive Wilmington, NC 28401.

    I worked with Biff at Diamond Shamrock in the early 70's. He was the best boss and mentor imaginable. Always there if I needed him - like a father figure and I never forgot him. What a great guy! My heart goes out to you and your family at this time.
