Nona (Patsy) Belle O’Byrnes Meece, age 95, formerly of Atlanta, GA, residing at Autumn Care of Myrtle Grove, Wilmington, NC, died on Monday, July 26, 2010.

She was born August 13, 1914, to Lucretia Harley Hobson and James Henry O‘Byrnes in Slater/Eupora, MS. She married Henry (Hank) Crockett Meece, Sr. in 1939 in Dalton, GA.

She was a graduate of Bennett Academy in MS and received medical tech training in Minnesota. Following her marriage she worked in Knoxville General Hospital until retiring to raise her family. During her married life Patsy and Hank lived in TN, IL, NJ, and GA while he served as a field advisor with ALCOA.

She is survived by three children, Henry Crockett Meece, Jr. (and Beth) of Johnson City, TN, Lucretia Hobson Meece of Afton, TN, and Honor Victoria Knowles (and William) of Wilmington, NC; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey (and Jennifer) Meece of Marshfield, WI, Christopher (and Beth) Meece of Fox Point, WI, Andrew (and Andrea) Meece of Columbus, OH, Greg (and Joanne) Miller of Snellville, GA, Scott (and Brenda) Miller of Cocoa, FL, Matthew (and Jennifer) Miller of Baltimore, MD, Timothy (and Jessica ) Knowles of Rowayton, CT, Elizabeth (and Joseph) Alter of Cincinnati, OH; and fifteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four siblings and her husband.

Patsy spent her life working for and supporting community organizations and service groups. These included the Civil Air Patrol, the American Red Cross/Blood Bank, various community food banks and school missions. While living in Haddonfield, NJ, and later, in Atlanta, GA, she served on various church boards and participated in many church-related organizations. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Haddonfield, NJ, and Covenant Presbyterian Church of Atlanta. She was much loved by a host of friends and family.

Memorial service was July 31, 2010 at Carolina Beach Presbyterian Church.
