Norman Gleason Johnson a beloved husband, father, and devoted PaPa to his grand-children, and member of the community, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2023, in Wilmington, North Carolina. He was born on May 31, 1945, in Wilmington, where he spent his entire life.

Gleason dedicated his working years as a Construction Heavy Equipment Operator at Thomson Construction Company until his well-deserved retirement. He was known for his skill and dedication to his craft. Norman’s interests included fishing, shrimping, and net building, which he pursued with great passion.

Gleason was a faithful member of the Pentecostals Of Wilmington Church, where he found solace and strength in his spiritual journey. His faith was an integral part of his life, and he derived immense joy from his involvement in the church community.

Gleason is survived by his loving wife Linda Odum Johnson, his children Tina Strickland and her husband Keith, Norman G. “Bubba” Johnson Jr. and his wife Cathy, and Robyn Banks and her companion Russel Meares. He will also be remembered by his cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his sister Sylvia Johnson Clore. Gleason was preceded in death by his parents, Norman Albert Johnson and Bessie Mae Golden Johnson.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation at Wilmington Funeral Chapel from 4-6 pm on Sunday, October 8, 2023. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Norman Gleason Johnson will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those whose lives he touched. May he rest in eternal peace.
