Memorial Gifts & Donations

Our precious loved one, Patricia Diane Watters, took the hand of her Savior on Friday, July 28, 2023, and danced her way into Heaven, in her perfected body. Despite suffering from RA most of her adult life, she never allowed it to diminish her spirit, her drive, or define who she was and what she could do! Diane fought a great fight, she finished her race, and never wavered in her faith. Her beautiful life was best epitomized by Ruth of the Bible; compassionate, faithful, loyal, and relentless.

In her professional career, after graduating college, Diane opened Dataword Computer Center on March 5, 1982, and Watters Accounting Services on August 7, 2006. She tirelessly worked to maintain clients’ business records, financial records and report filings. Diane’s dedication and expertise in the field were highly regarded.
Diane’s life was enriched by being actively involved in her church and community. As an active member at Freedom Baptist Church, she taught the Ladies WOW (Women of Word) class. These ladies served as a beacon of light to many patients at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice, and cooked meals for grieving family members. Wherever there was a need, you could depend on these ladies to step up.

Diane leaves behind a loving family, including her sons, Jeffrey Wayne Watters and wife, April, and Steven Harold Watters and wife, Jessie. Diane was blessed by her grandchildren, which she called her “rewards”: Aaron Ray Watters, Eli Wayne Watters, Ayden James Watters, and Isabella Page Watters. You know you are special when your grandchildren use two terms of endearment! Aaron called her Yaya, and Eli, Ayden, and Isabella called her Ama-D.
Diane is also survived by her stepmother, Eunice H. Fincannon; sisters, Peggy F. Bowker and Lisa F. Best; her brothers, Edward N. Fincannon, Mark T. Fincannon and wife, Rebecca, Gary D. Fincannon, James W. Fincannon and wife, Joy, and Kelvin Fincannon and wife, Jodi.

Diane was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sherwood Wayne Watters, who she married on July 4, 1969, and they remained best friends until his death on February 15, 1994; her parents, Warlick T. Fincannon and Doris Barnes; her sisters, Susan F. Seltzer and Janet F. Sirmons.

A Celebration of Life will be held on August 12, 2023, at 2:00 PM, to honor Diane’s memory at Freedom Baptist Church, 802 North College Road, Wilmington, NC by the Reverend Dodd Mays.

Diane was a very special lady. She lived with my mom for about 6 months to assist with her care. I will miss her willingness to serve and such a great heart for people and for God. She will be missed. I know heaven is now where she is with our Lord and no more pain or sorrow. We will see her again one day. Lots of Love Diane. Vivian

I was privileged to work alongside Diane and we became fast friends. Sometimes when we would go out for supper we always ended up going thru a drive-thru just to say hello to the person at the window and drive away laughing. Jeff and Steve, u were blessed to call her Mom, and she truly loved you all. What a blessing! Debbie

    Debbie Blackburn says:
Diane had a smile that could warm a room. She was a caring person who would offer comfort when you were hurting. She was a wise teacher who would freely share her knowledge when you needed direction. She was a fun loving woman who would laugh with you until your sides ached. Diane will always be my treasured friend. My life is richer for knowing her.
