Memorial Gifts & Donations

Paula Soenksen Bennett Grubbs passed away in the early morning on May 16, 2021. We are grateful for the care she received from the staff at the Commons of Brightmore and Liberty Hospice.

She was born on September 19, 1929 (09/19/29) in Harvey, Illinois to her parents, the late Paul William Soenksen and Bernice Jacobsen Soenksen. She graduated from Thornton Township High School, Harvey, Illinois and received an associates degree from Stephens College, Columbia Missouri. Paula helped her husband, Sam, operate Bennett’s Auto Service Center, and was a very dedicated mother. She was also very active in community organizations in Harvey (HACO, PTA, Girl Scouts and St. Clements Episcopal Church). After Sam died she moved to Winston-Salem to work with her sister and brother-in-law at Sir Speedy Printing Company. Upon retirement she moved to Wilmington and worked at the Stork’s Nest with her daughter, Polly. She was an active member at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd.

She is survived by her daughters: Lisa Enright (Jack), Phoebe Bryzgalski (Bill), Aimee Parker (Rob) and Polly Daniel (Clifton), and step-daughter, Sandra Grubbs. Her grandchildren: Brian Bryzgalski (Gina), Kyle Enright (Andrea), Ryan Enright (Christina), Becky Bryzgalski, Ames Daniel (Madi), Wes Daniel (Maria), Jake Bryzgalski (Kaila), Robert Parker, Jr., Gates Daniel and Will Parker. Great grandchildren: Anthony, Marissa, Marie Grace, Jacob Gannon, Annabelle Joy, Nolan Conor, Ruby Faith and Soren Wyatt. Her sister Dannie Weber (Art), sister-in-law Carolyn Soenksen and numerous nieces and nephews.

Paula is predeceased by her husbands Sam Uhl Bennett (after 25 years of marriage) and K.K. Grubbs (after another 25 years of marriage), her sister Carol Pembroke (Jack) and her brother Bill Soenksen.

Family was the most important focus for Paula. We will miss her greatly, but we believe we never really lose the ones we love because they are a huge part of us.

A short memorial service will be held directly after mass at the Church of the Good Shepherd on Sunday, May 23, 2021 (11:15am).

I had the pleasure of working with Paula when she handled the church bulletin for Church of the Good Shepherd. I admired her spunk and independence . From our talks I know how much she enjoyed spending time with her family. I am sure she touched many lives.
