Memorial Gifts & Donations

Peggy Barnes Bass was born on December 27, 1935, in the small town of Fair Bluff, NC and passed away peacefully on March 8, 2022 in Wilmington, NC.

She is survived by her children Pamela (Walter) Smith, Jimmy (Renee) Bass, Cynthia (Steve) Nisbet, Sherri (Neal) Dunn and Amy Stone. She has 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death was her Husband of 63 years, Slade.

Peggy was the owner and operator of Tiny Tot Daycare for over 25 years. She had an impact on many, many children by offering a place full of love, warmth and home-cooked meals. She loved her Pastor, Arnold Griffin, and her church, Fellowship Baptist. She was a loyal member of the congregation and always enjoyed decorating the sanctuary with poinsettias at Christmas. Peggy was a master gardener and was always excited to show off the flowers in her yard or her extensive orchid collection.

Special thanks to Lori Drinkwater for being a friend, confidant, and caregiver to our mama. Also to the 8th-floor nursing staff and doctors, namely Dr. Blair and Dr. Forshay, for the excellent care they gave to our mama.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, March 14, 2022 at Fellowship Baptist Church with the opportunity for friendly visitation at 10:00 am prior to the service. Entombment will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens.

The family is receiving friends at the home of Jimmy and Renee Bass located at 510 Florence Drive Castle Hayne, NC 28429.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Peggy’s memory to the Fellowship Baptist Church Building Fund (please contact the church directly at 910-791-9054) and New Hanover County Sheriff’s Animal Service Unit.
