Memorial Gifts & Donations

Peggy Currie, whose warm smile and kind, generous nature touched the hearts of many, passed peacefully on March 16, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.

Peggy’s life was dedicated to serving others. She was a faithful servant of God and a devoted wife to Carl, the love of her life and husband of 63 years. She was a phenomenal grandmother to her grandchildren both near and far. She was a friend to many, whether she knew them for years or a short while. The love she showed to others was abundant and generous.

Peggy was born March 22, 1936, in Richmond Co., NC as the eighth of nine children born to JB and Hattie Brooks. She loved spending time with her large, close family and never missed a September family reunion. Peggy graduated from Roland High School and Lees-McRae College and maintained close relationships with her classmates over the years.

As an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Wilmington, she was conferred an Honorary Life Membership in Presbyterian Women for her faithful service to the church as an Elder, a Clerk of the Session, member of the choir, and avid volunteer. The members of her home church were always considered her family.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and worked passionately with the Shrine Club of Wilmington. As a Past President of the Ladies of the Shrine, she spent many weekends in the kitchen supporting numerous functions. She also traveled across the state with the Shriners Choo Choo as they brought joy to children all around.

Peggy was nothing short of an artist – spending hours on end making masterpieces with a sewing machine and fabric. Through her business, Currie Draperies, she breathed life into homes all around Wilmington and beyond with her exquisite creations.

Her home was her happy place. For nearly 60 years, this was where she raised her children, ran her business, and cooked many delicious meals for family and friends. Her signature pound cake, chicken & pastry, fried chicken, and collards were renowned and requested by many. She loved nothing more than cooking these dishes to share with others.

Peggy is reunited in heaven with her husband, Carl. She is survived by her sons Wayne (Laura) and Floyd (Sandy), her grandchildren Kendall (Gui), Jennifer (Chas), Traci, Wade, and Ellyn, her great-grandchildren Skylar, Sophie, Kairon, and Rydan, and also by her loving sisters Patsy White and Lois Lowery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lees-McRae College or Shriners Hospitals for Children.

The family will see friends from 6 to 8 Monday, March 21, 2022, at Wilmington Funeral Chapel.

The memorial service will be at 11 am Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at Wilmington Funeral Chapel officiated by Dr. Roger Horne.
