Peggy Oglesby

Peggy L. Oglesby of Morehead City, N.C. passed away peacefully at Crystal Bluffs Rehabilitation Center on June 20, 2018 surrounded by her family. At Peggy’s request, her body will be donated to the History of Science Care for the advancement of science.  This last act is a selfless act of giving to improve the welfare of humankind, and that gift provides hope for future generations.  Once she has been cremated and her remains delivered home there will be a private family memorial and celebration of life in her honor, to be officiated by her niece, Pastor Jodi Lampley Gonzalez.

Peggy spent her life raising her family and loving her children and grandchildren, working in her sister Nancy’s family restaurants where there were always practical jokes, pranks and constant laughter between the sisters, mischievous nephews and brother-in-law, Tommy Ballou.  In later years, her devotion and compassion was helping the elderly.  She devoted her time as a full time caregiver and was considered more as family to the elderly people she cared for, until her health required her to retire.  Peggy was known for her love of animals, wonderful cooking, and especially her homemade chocolate brownies.

She is survived by her daughter, Hope Gentry of Morehead City; sisters and brothers-in-law, all of Morehead City, Nancy Huckemeyer and husband, Merlin; Millie Lee and husband, Bill; Jane Rosen and fiancé, Joe; Cathy Ballard and husband, Jerry; her brother, Ray Lampley and his wife, Kim of Raleigh, NC; her son-in-law, Wesley Brazelton, whom she considered her son, of Morehead; her special Uncle, Wiley Lampley of Rockingham, NC.  She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Krista Boyette; Gunnar Gentry; Jeremy Brazelton and Ashley Brazelton, 3 great grandchildren, Nick, MaKayla and Elizabeth as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Eugene David Lampley; her daughter, Kim Brazelton; special son-in-law, Rocky Gentry; nephews William David Ballou and Thomas Wayne Ballou, Jr;  grandparents, aunts, uncles and her beloved pet, Prissy.

The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Kim McAloon and all the staff of Crystal Bluffs Rehabilitation and Health Care Center for all of their kindness, care and support.  We would also like to express our sincere appreciation to her nurses, Brandon, Dawn and Michelle, who treated her with special tenderness and love.

In lieu of flowers or donations the family requests you provide love, compassion and support to your loved ones in their time of need and to provide a random act of kindness to an elderly person in your community, in Peggy’s honor.
