Peter William Schloth

October 20, 1950 - January 25, 2023
Peter William Schloth

Peter William Schloth, age 72 of Leland, NC, sadly passed away at Novant Health in Wilmington, NC on January 25, 2023, with his loving wife at his bedside.

Peter was born in Queens (Woodside), NY on October 20, 1950 to the late Edward and Mary Schloth. He is survived by his wife Mary Frances Schloth, his son Peter Schloth (Shannon) and their children P.J., Alana, and Eliza, his son Patrick Schloth (Janie) and his brothers Gerard Schloth (Rita) of Jacksonville, FL and Arthur Schloth (Brenda) of Rhode Island, along with many other extended family members and friends who loved and will miss him. In addition to his aforementioned parents, Peter is predeceased by his brothers and sister-in-laws Edward Schloth (Joan), Neal Schloth (Arlene), and Bill Schloth (Rita).

Peter was the youngest of six boys. His family spent their summers in Breezy Point, NY where he met his wife when he was 13 and she 11. He received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Manhattan College and soon after graduating, he and Mary got married in 1972 and recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.  Peter spent his career working in the paper industry, the majority of the time with Beloit Manhattan where he made many lifelong friends. As Peter advanced in his career, the Schloth family lived in 7 states in 13 years before settling in Pennsylvania in 1985 where they lived for 27 years.  In 1985 Peter also bought the Schloth family beach house (established 1943) in Breezy Point where he and his wife met many years earlier and have been spending their summers ever since.

While Peter passed away too soon, he and Mary were fortunate to have been able to retire early and have spent the last 10 years greatly enjoying living in the Waterford community in Leland, North Carolina.  Not being one to sit still for too long, Peter put his consummate problem solving and chemical engineering skills to good use for Waterford by overseeing improvements to the community’s 70 acres of waterways and being elected to the community’s Board of Directors in 2016.

Peter was a true gentleman with an infectious smile that made all that knew him enjoy his company. He was the very best husband, Dad, Grandpa, friend, and colleague.  He was passionate about kayaking, gardening, reading, riding his bike, the Green Bay Packers, and enjoying a good beer from a frosted glass or an old fashioned in the company of his family and friends. The world and all who knew him are better because of his presence. Cheers to Peter!

A Celebration of Life for Peter will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at the Waterford Clubhouse (1081 Old Village Circle, Leland, NC 28451). Neale Turlington says:
It broke my heart to learn that Peter had passed. I was genuinely blessed to have been a part of his life! He was such a gift to me while I was working at Waterford. I got to know Peter as he served on the Board of Directors where his involvement was invaluable. He analyzed the issues at hand and helped guide the team to sound decisions for the best of the community. He was always a gentlemen and a team player. Through his leadership at Waterford, Peter inspired the community to embrace and protect its natural resources. His contributions will be forever felt. I’m guessing he is now serving as an angel, paddling around the heavens. He will be truly missed by all of us who were touched by his life. Barry’s and my thoughts and prayers go out to Mary and their family.
