Buzz McInnis, age 69, born on June 26, 1942 in Wilmington, NC, died on March 8, 2012 due to complications from colon cancer.
He graduated from New Hanover High School in 1960 and attended Wilmington College. A lifelong resident of Wilmington, Buzz enjoyed a 30-year career in the marine industry at Pages Creek Service. He was an avid boats man on both the Cape Fear River and the backwaters of the Intracoastal Waterway. He shared his enthusiasm for his hometown with any and all. He came to appreciate and love the mountains of North Carolina through years of camping the Blue Ridge Parkway with his daughter Phyllis and later as a part-time resident of the West Jefferson, NC area.
Buzz was known as a kind and generous man, always willing to help others and was much loved by his family and friends. He will be missed dearly.
Buzz was preceded in death by his parents, Philip Kilmer McInnis and Francis Costin McInnis of Wilmington, NC. He is survived by his wife Sherrill Sineath McInnis, daughter Phyllis A. McInnis (Jan Hinton), and in-laws Palmer and Alison Sineath, Sally and George Edens, and Gail Sineath; and nieces and nephews Catherine Warren (Matt), Caroline Sineath, Christian Sineath and Randall (Sonya) Edens.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 11, 2012 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at the home located at 1705 Kannapolis Drive (Middle Sound), Wilmington, NC.
The family will spread Buzz’s ashes at a later date.
