Memorial Gifts & Donations

Beloved elementary school teacher, wife, daughter, and sister Rachel Mack left this world suddenly on January 17th at the age of 34.

She was born to Jan Christian on October 17, 1987. After graduating high school with honor in in 2005, she graduated from the University of North Carolina in Wilmington on the Dean’s List in 2011. She followed her dreams of becoming an elementary school teacher in December 2012, where she began her nine-year teaching career at Bellamy Elementary School.

Rachel had a passion and love for teaching literacy, and this past year she requested to move from 1st grade to a 4th grade Language Arts position. Additional roles Rachel fulfilled at Bellamy Elementary were serving as a co-coach of the “Girls on the Run” running team and serving as Wellness Champion at the county level for the past several years. Rachel was known in the community for building strong relationships with her students and providing strong structure to growing minds.

In May of 2016, she married her best friend and love of her life, Corey Mack in downtown Wilmington. Celebrating life brought great joy to Rachel and she loved an excuse to put on music and dance the night away. During school breaks you could always find Rachel in the sun or outside enjoying her lovely dogs. Rachel had a deep love of animals and was known for being a self-professed “Fur Mommy” to four cats and two dogs.

Rachel had an uncanny ability to find humor in all her daily activities. Her laughter and bright personality were contagious to everyone she met. She is survived by her husband Corey; her mother, Jan; her sister and brother and law, Linnie and Alex; and her niece and nephew, Olive and Atreyu.

A private service is being held for the family.

    K Blake says:
Rachel had integrity and heart. She worked tirelessly for her students and built strong, lasting, meaningful relationships with her students and their families.. Rachel checked in on her friends and was always striving to lift up others. I will forever miss her visits, calls, texts, and our inside jokes. Rachel had the best big laugh and would double over with a wide smile cracking up and brighten everyone’s day. This is how I will remember her. Smiling and dressed as the royalty she was in life as well as in her Disney heart. “Oh, that clock. Old killjoy.” – Cinderella --Rest in peace friend.--
