Raymond Lewis Bacon, 78, of Wilmington passed away surrounded by family and friends Wednesday, November 6, 2012 at the Lowe Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Cener.

Born in Long Branch, NJ on May 11, 1934 he was the son of the late G. Raymond and Constance Lewis Bacon.

He was a 1952 graduate of Long Branch High School and a 1954 graduate of Monmouth Junior College with an AA Degree in Business Administration.

After a brief career in the family printing business, Ray took a different direction into outside sales. He retired after 20 years with Heidelberg Eastern, Inc. during which time he earned numerous awards for superior sales. He then moved his family to Hampstead, NC. Using his carpentry skills, Ray built their new home in Olde Point in Hampstead. He later used these same talents to establish his carpentry business doing small renovations and fine carpentry for numerous contractors and home owners. For the last five years, he worked for the Lowe’s Home Improvement Store in Surf City, NC.

Ray served in several capacities with Olde Point Property Owners Associations. Ray was an active member of Hampstead United Methodist Church. He was known by his best friends as “Mr. Fixit.” In the early years of Ray and Lynne’s marriage, they volunteered as crisis hotline intervention workers.

    Paul and Maryann Waldron says:
Dear Lynn and family, We are so sorry to hear of Ray's passing. He was such a lovely person and we are so grateful to have been a small part of Ray's and your lifes. Ray was truly a "nice" gentleman. He always had a kind word for people, a ready smile, and a joy to be around. It was always such a pleasure to travel with you, in that you both added so much to everyone's fun. It is so difficult to know what to say, because how does someone express the feelings of loss and sympathy that we feel for Ray's death. Our hearts go out to you, Lynn, for all the pain that you now feel. Keep remembering the good times. You are in our thoughts and prayers and we think of you often. Love, Paul and Maryann Waldron
