Rev. John Ruben Butler, Sr., age 61 of Wilmington passed away Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

John was born in Wilmington on August 24, 1960. His parents were William Rubin Butler and Esther Jean Coley.

John, a former United States Marine, was currently serving his community as the Senior Pastor of Federal Point Pentecostal Church on Piner Road in Wilmington. He had a strong testimony and witness for the Gospel of Christ, and enjoyed ministering to his church family through music and the preaching of God’s Word. He was a member of the Full Gospel Business Mens Fellowship in Wilmington and would minister through music at their meetings. John also served as Vice President on the board of MIC Youth Camp. He was a bi-vocational pastor who also worked as a professional pest exterminator working with Bug in a Rug Exterminators

He was preceded in death by wife, Bonnie; son, Danny Strickland, Jr.; mother, Esther Hinnant; father, Rubin Butler; grand-daughter, Charity Jonae Butler; brother, Mark Butler; and nephew, William Graham Butler, Jr.

He is survived by his son, John Ruben Butler, Jr. and wife Sherry; daughters Jayme Butler, Catina Wanner, Cissy Adams; son Michael Strickland; brother, William Graham and wife Geraldine Butler; grand-children, nieces and nephews, and so many more.

Services will be held at Federal Point Pentecostal Church, 629 Piner Road in Wilmington, NC at 2 pm Saturday, October 9, 2021.
