Reverend James Roy Hines, Sr., a dedicated Methodist Minister and beloved member of the Wilmington community, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2023, in his hometown of Wilmington, North Carolina. He was born on August 13, 1945, in Wilmington, making him 78 years old at the time of his passing.

James was a remarkable individual who touched the lives of many through his work in both DuPont and as a Methodist Minister for over 30 years. His commitment to serving others was evident in everything he did, from his professional endeavors to his personal interests.

In his spare time, James found joy in golfing, fishing, and baseball. He was an avid supporter of the Atlanta Braves and loved nothing more than watching and cheering on his favorite team. Additionally, he proudly served in the United States Army as a Veteran.

James was a family man, and his dedication to his loved ones was unparalleled. He worked tirelessly to support his family, ensuring their well-being and happiness. His own pursuit of knowledge and spiritual growth led him to attend Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute and received an Associate of Religion/Church Ministries and attended Seminary College at Duke University, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree.

James is survived by his children, James Roy Hines, Jr., of Sneads Ferry, NC, Randy Neil Hines and wife Stephanie of Willard, NC, and Gina Ray Locklear of Wilmington. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, all of whom will miss him dearly.

Preceding James in death are his parents, Garland Henry Hines and Louise Merritt Hines, as well as his loving wife of over 59 years, Jean Charles Hines, and his brother, Norman Hines.

Friends and family will have an opportunity to pay their respects during a visitation on Sunday, September 24, 2023, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the funeral home.

Services to honor and celebrate James’s life will be conducted at Wilmington Funeral Chapel on Monday, September 25, 2023, at 12 Noon. The Reverend Jacob Lewis will officiate the funeral service, followed by interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
