Richard Eugene Bopp


 Richard E Bopp, age 66, died peacefully Thursday, December
8, 2011 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Richard was
born on December 18, 1944 in St. Louis Mo, son of the late Lois and Eugene
Bopp. Surviving is Susan Bopp, his wife of 42 years; his children: Laura Renn
of Peoria, IL; David Bopp and wife Janet of Columbia Falls, MT; and Jeffrey
Bopp of Wilmington, NC; his brother, Allan Bopp and wife Deborah of Sandpoint,
ID; and two granddaughters, Caroline and Julianne, of Peoria, IL.

Rich was a graduate of Northwestern University, the
University of Missouri, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He
spent the majority of his career working as a librarian at the University of
Illinois in the Reference library, the U.S. Government Documents Library, and
later the Map and Geography Library. He was the author of numerous articles and
book reviews in professional journals on disability and reference services. He
was the co-editor of a text book on reference and information services used in
reference and information services courses across the country.

Rich will be remembered as a compassionate, gentle, and
spiritual man. He loved his family, his Northwestern Wildcats, and his books,
music, and movies. Rich lived every day with a quiet grace that guided and
inspired his entire family.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in St.
Louis, MO. In Rich’s memory, memorial gifts can be made to the National Parks
Conservation Association, Doctors with Borders, or the Humane Society of the
U.S.

    Dear Susie, I was a classmate of Rich's at Lutheran High in St. Louis. We are having our 50th reunion this June. I would like to mention Rich's passing at the reunion. Rich was well liked. I had heard that he wanted to attend this reunion. I am truly sorry that he won't be there. You and your family have our deepest sympathies. Ray Granger
