Memorial Gifts & Donations

Richard G. Pickett of Winnabow, NC died September 7, 2009.

Surviving are his brother and sister-in-law John and Virginia Pickett, Jr. of Odessa, Delaware, nephews John Pickett, III, Rusty Pickett and family of Delaware, Winnie Pickett and Eric Pickett of Pennsylvania, along with many friends in the local area.

Richard was born in Camden, New Jersey on July 11, 1926.

A WWII veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, making combat landings at Guam and Iwo Jima, he was awarded two Purple Hearts for wounds received in action. He returned to civilian life in 1946, attended Temple University, then branched into business. During the Korean War, he answered the call to serve his country again by re-entering the U.S. Marine Corps. He was extremely proud of his long and honorable service.

Richard settled in Wilmington where he consecutively worked in construction, managed a service station, became a commercial fisherman, then finally worked in General Electric’s nuclear fuels department until his retirement.

During this time, he was an active member of the Moose Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

We will all miss Richard – our lives have been enriched by knowing him and calling him friend.
