Jan Peterson, age 69, of Wilmington left us unexpectedly on Wednesday March 2, 2011.

Jan and his family moved to Wilmington 20 years ago to get away from the cold of Syracuse, NY. He was a free spirit. He deeply believed in doing what was right. He was a fierce supporter of social justice with a special affinity for the challenges faced by Native Americans. He is remembered for his special work with the people the Onondaga Nation near Syracuse NY.

Jan is survived by his life partner of 30 years, Sandee Resnick, by his brothers Jon and Loren (Jeanette), his daughter Bree (Michael), his son Erik (Cristina), his adopted daughter Jenell, by 4 grandchildren, Jaden, Erika, Mitchell, Abigail and by many cousins, nephews and nieces. He is due to be blessed with a new grandchild this month.

Visiting hours are Sunday March 6, 2011 from 1-3pm at Wilmington Funeral and Cremation.
