Richard Jock Ruefle, 86, of Wilmington NC slipped suddenly from this life Friday March 9, 2012 at home.
Richard “Pop-Pop” was born June 22 1925 in Albany, New York. As a member of “The Greatest Generation” he was a WWII USMC South Pacific Theater Veteran. Richard was a Recipient of the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. Much thanks for your service. After his military service he worked as a funeral director in Albany, NY. As years passed he retired settling with his family in Carolina Beach. He will be remembered for his superior intellect and quick wit. If not reading he could be found tirelessly working in the yard right up to his death. He was well known and admired for his green thumb.
He is survived by son Butch and wife Karen, daughters Lise Ruefle, Dawn Ruefle Guy and husband DeWayne. Grandsons Zackary Guy, Jason Ruefle and wife Donna. Great granddaughter Shauna Ruefle and three nieces on the West Coast, Susan, Nancy and Karen. His faithful pets and companions Sheba and Bellow.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday March 13, 2012 at 6:00 pm at Wilmington Funeral Chapel. Feel free to wear your work attire or your favorite sweatpants. Please come as you are.
The family will receive friends following the service and at other times at the residence on Fisher Lane Wilmington.
