Richard Reighter, age 83, of Wilmington, passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2018, at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Rahway, NJ on October 8, 1935.

Richard “Dick” Reighter is survived by his wife, Marlene Sullivan, and their four children; Julie Tremont, Christine O’Neill, William Reighter, and Kathleen DiPaola, son in law James Dipaola. He is also survived by his brothers; Robert Reighter and Ronald Reighter, grandchildren; Luke and Sophia Tremont, Robert, Richard and Amanda Galasso, Nicklaus and Elise DiPaola, Evan and Lily Reighter and nieces; Donna Matusik, Laura Wolfe, Kimberly Kilzer, Rachel and Nicole Reighter.

He is predeacesed by his brother Robert Saad and his son in law John Tremont.

Dick grew up in Farmingdale, NY and was a graduate of Hobart and William Smith College, a proud member of the Theta Delta Chi Fraternity. It was there he met the love of his life, Marlene. They were married for 57 years and raised 4 children together in Syracuse, NY.

Dick’s career in business brought him to Niagara Mohawk. He retired in the late ‘90s as the Director of Compensation and Benefits.

Dick and Marlene spent the next 20 years enjoying their home and garden in Wilmington, NC.  He was a man who loved the outdoors – a fisherman, hunter, boater, and photographer. He was also a grill master and weekend chef extraordinaire!

He was the kind of person who kept friends for a lifetime. He loved them all and was always willing to lend a hand or give advice.

His family adored him and will forever miss his wise words, wonderful sense of humor, and creative, colorful expletives.

He shared many valuable lessons throughout his life that made us all better people. We are blessed to have had him in our lives, and he will always be in our hearts.

A Service to Celebrate Dick’s life is being planned and will be announced.

In lieu of flowers contributions to the New Hanover Regional Medical Center in loving memory of Dick would be greatly appreciated.

The whole staff was amazing; from the doctors to the people cleaning the rooms, we are so grateful for the kindness they showed us. Thank you again.

Like the two Charlies, my memories of Dick go back to high school days more than 65 years ago. Dick was a man of many successes: a degree from Hobart, marrying his love,Marlene, great business acumen, family man/ terrific dad, one of the best pals ever ( despite the fact that he never got the hang of using the phone to keep in touch!) Dick, you are sorely missed. Keep them laughing in heaven. Bill

John & I are so sorry to hear of Dick's passing. We remember meeting & talking to him several times when visiting my brother Fred & Phyllis. Fred ALWAYS talked about Dick, even when we didn't see Dick. Know Fred & Dick are enjoying each other in their next life in Heaven. They were dear neighbors to each other here on earth. Our deepest sympathy to all the family
