Richard Edgar Shepard, Sr., age 70, of Hampstead passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Stoneridge Assisted Living.

He was born November 10, 1943 in Wilmington, North Carolina the son of the late Clarence Shepard and Trudy Viola Shepard. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Brenda Shepard and daughter, Lois Smith.

Rickie loved to be on the water and enjoyed fishing. He worked for years with Mason’s Marina in the Middle Sound Area as a commercial fisherman. He had a deep love of family and enjoyed spending time with them.

He is survived by his son, Richard “Eddie” E. Shepard, Jr. and wife Rose; grandson, Zackary Shepard; two sisters and one brother.
The family will hold a private service at a later date.

    Eddie and Family, so sorry to hear about Uncle Ricky. He was quite the character. Always had his middle sound loafers on. He was a true middle sounder. Sorry for your loss. God bless.

    Grandpa rick as tyler called him will be missed by the evankos. loved his fried fish. I will always remember him shucking oysters and peeling shrimp down at the marina. another memory is ricks blue pants, white shirt and sneads ferry sneakers. we often talk of the fun days down at the marina with grandma brenda and grandpa rick. tyler ate his first crab down there hand picked and hand fed by grandpa rick. He will always hold a special place in our hearts (especially Kenny) what a kind and giving man and what a personality!

    Eddie, Rose and Zackary, I just learned of Ricky's death today. I am so sorry for your loss. Flash and I learned a lot about crabs, oysters and fish from Ricky. His pickled oysters and shrimp were one of a kind!
