Richard Wayne Turner, Wilmington, NC, aged 76, passed away peacefully in his home on November 29, 2021.

He was born on June 14, 1945 in Fayetteville, NC, the oldest son of the late Richard Bowers Turner and Ruth Elizabeth Sineath Turner. He is survived by his only daughter, Stephanie Turner (residing in Burlingame, California); his brother Kenneth (Ken) B. Turner (residing in Fayetteville, NC); his sister Donna Turner Phillips (residing in Shawnee, Kansas); and his two nephews, Brian and Keith Herridge.

Richard enjoyed a long career working for the NC Department of Agriculture, Standards Division until his retirement in 2010. He was actively involved in the New Hanover County Law Enforcement Officers Association (NHCLEOA), starting as a member working in the Kitchen helping serve meals and since 2016, serving as the Treasurer.

Richard was a charismatic individual who never met a stranger. We will always carry fond memories of him in our hearts.

On Tuesday, December 28th, a memorial service will be held at 2pm with a reception to follow at the New Hanover County Law Enforcement Officers Association (NHCLEOA). 5301 Holly Shelter Rd, Castle Hayne, North Carolina 28429. Reverend Mel Smith will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Richard’s life.

    Richard was a true friend and confidant, he was our Treasurer for many years, he loved the Law Enforcement Organization and his integrity was beyond question.
