Gifts & Memorial Donations

Robert Arthur Meier, Jr., 74, of Leland, NC, passed away suddenly on March 21, 2023.

Bob was born in High Point, NC. After graduating high school, he went on to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point and joined the Army after graduation. After being honorably discharged, he went on to earn his Juris Doctor from Catholic Law in Washington, DC and practiced for 38 years before retiring and moving from Maryland to North Carolina with his wife.

He was devoted to his wife, Marleen, for 47 wonderful years before she tragically passed in December 2020. They had 4 children.

Bob is survived by his children Thomas (Korinne), Jennifer (Logan), and Emily; his brother John (Kelly); sister Anne (Pembroke); brothers-in-law Hank and Paul (Felicia); and grandchildren Ashley, Anna-Korina, Adora-Rose, Grayson, Arabella, and Leslie. He is preceded in death by his wife Marleen; daughter Tara; grandson James; sister Janie; sister-in-law Barbara; parents Robert Sr. and Jane; and in-laws Milton and Laura.

Bob was an incredibly intelligent man with a quick wit and dry sense of humor. He enjoyed telling stories, spending time with his family, fishing, working on his model trains, reading, and doing crossword puzzles.

There will be a private service held in Leland.

In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

We will miss our friend Bob. We always enjoyed his impromptu get togethers on his deck, sitting around the fire pit with friends. We will miss his dry humor. Bob and Marleen were both so special. We're glad we had them as friends. Celeste & Jay

Bob and Marleen were (and are) special friends forever. Bob’s quick and rapier wit was really appreciated and he was so great spending time with my WWII veteran dad. He hosted my visit in 2021, introduced me to all of the great NC friends he and Mar made, and I was always included with their adoring family and friends. Lots of love to the (adult) kids and their families…grateful to have been a part of their lives.

I remember going over to Emily’s house in Maryland for sleepovers or pool days etc and every time Mr. Meier (Bob) was there, he was always so kind and opened his home to me as if I were his own daughter. I remember he liked to be a little sarcastic and I always loved the look on his face when Emily or Jenn would tell him something, it was a kind of “Are you kidding me” or “did you really just say that” surprised look haha! He really was a kind, extremely smart, caring man and I’m thankful I was able to know him and Marlene both. I pray for the whole family…and I pray that they are in heaven holding hands <3
