Robert Brian Hathaway, 67, of Wilmington passed away unexpectedly on February 28, 2022.
Robert was born on November 17, 1954 in Tarboro, NC. He is preceded in death by his parents Henry and Lucille; brothers Bernie and Dan. Robert is survived by his brother David; daughters Carla and Jennifer; nephews Kevin and Travis; 5 grandchildren, 3 grand cats and 1 great grand dog.
Robert graduated from Garinger High School in Charlotte, NC. He worked in his family owned business of Hathaway’s Fried Chicken in Monroe, NC. He earned a civil engineering degree from CPCC and worked as a land surveyor. He then went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Robert was a kindhearted soul who loved nature and animals. He was an avid reader. He enjoyed spending time outdoors doing yoga, hiking, kayaking and paddle boarding. His most recent endeavor was carving wooden hearts from broken branches he found in the woods. He created them as a reminder that when we feel discarded or broken we can choose to keep our hearts open so love will find its way back in.
