Robert Hughes, Jr., a loving husband and father, left this world on February 4, 2014.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 38 years, Shirley Hughes. He was blessed with three children, Kenneth Brus and family; Dennis Brus and family; and Rhonda Flynn and family; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Papa, as his grandchildren called him, was a great man that everyone loved. He brought joy to all who were lucky to have known him and will be terribly missed.

He was a vet of the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged after four years of service. For saving his Commanding Officer he was awarded two Purple Hearts. He is also survived by his loving brother and three loving sisters.

A funeral service will be held 3:00 PM Friday, February 7, 2014 at Wilmington Funeral Chapel. Visitation will begin at 1:30 PM.

    I love you pop belly . . . I will never for you you will always have a special place in my heart . I will remember when I told the lady at the ball park she could not sit at the top right of the bleachers for my game because that was you && grandma spot . . . && the times I have got scared && you walked over to make sure everything was okay && walked me out so I would feel better && etc . Damn this is such a shock I cant believe your gone . Ily && im just so glad you are not in anymore pain . I cant wait to see you tomorrow papa
