Robert J. Evans, husband of Velna Evans, died peacefully under Hospice care at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center on January 10, 2010.
He was born in Chicago on August 21, 1917, the fifth of the seven children of Frank and Jessie Evans.
Besides his wife, Bob is survived by a nice family that includes his sister Marian Hoare of Seattle, Washington, his four children in Wisconsin, Robert Jr, Carol, Ann and Jane, five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Bob was a veteran of WWII when he and four other men helped initiate the APO system. His active working life was spent in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was proud to have built his own commercial building that housed Evans Mattress and Furniture, his business of about 50 years. After he retired, he married Vel and moved to Hampstead, NC in 1991 and enjoyed much travel and writing together. Most recently they have been residents of Plantation Village and Champions.
A memorial service will be at a later date in Milwaukee.
