Robert Levy Ward, a longtime resident of Leland, NC peacefully passed away on October 29, 2023. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends during his final moments. Robert’s age at the time of his passing was 92 years. He was born in Whiteville, NC on March 21, 1931.

A man of faith, Robert was a member of Elah Baptist Church in Leland. Additionally, Robert was a proud member of Wilmington Lodge #319 A.F. & A.M., where he shared camaraderie and brotherhood with his fellow members as a Master Mason for 53 years. The lodge held a special place in Robert’s heart, and he cherished the time spent there. He was a proud veteran of the US Army serving from July 28, 1949 and discharged March 15, 1950.

Robert dedicated 26 years of his life to Hercules/Cape Industries as an Inventory Manager, and later at Honest Engine Equipment Co., where he diligently served as a loyal and hardworking employee. His commitment and dedication to his work were truly admirable.

Robert was preceded in death by his father, Onslow L. Ward, his mother, Emma Blackburn Ward, and his daughter, Edna Carolyn Wilson. Although deeply missed, their memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved them.

Robert is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Nancy Carolyn Poole Ward, his daughter Ginger Lynn Taylor and her husband Norman, his son Robert “Robbie” Ward, Jr., his daughter Sandra Wilson, as well as his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His family brought immeasurable joy and happiness to his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

Services to honor and celebrate Robert’s life will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at Elah Baptist Church, located at 1527 Old Fayetteville Road in Leland. Masonic Funeral Honors will presented by Wilmington Lodge #319. Following the service, Robert will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Tabor City, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to The Masonic Home for Children in Oxford, NC. This charitable organization holds a special place in both Robert’s and Nancy’s hearts, and any contributions made in his honor will be greatly appreciated.

During this time of loss, let us remember the wonderful memories we shared with Robert and find solace in the knowledge that he lived a full and meaningful life. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
