Robert Perry Midgett, age 85, of Wilmington was welcomed by his Lord and Savior at the Gates of Heaven on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Wilmington on December 4, 1935, to the late Robbie Midgett and Gertrude Hill Midgett.

Robert was a member of Federal Point Pentecostal Church and enjoyed going to Church and the fellowship with his church family. He was a very special dad, grand dad, friend, and neighbor, and was loved by all who knew him. He had a special big heart for everyone. Robert was a proud veteran of the US Coast Guard and the North Carolina National Guard. He was a retired professional Mill Wright/Machinist including working at Wilmington Iron Works, North East Chemicals, and Almont Shipping. In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing and hunting, but most of all spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Vada James (Willie), Robbie Midgett (Patricia), Rene’ James (Freeman), Bruce Midgett (Sylvia), Jeanette Midgett (Renee), sister Barbara Eggestein; 9 grandchildren Walter, Selina, Christopher, Lisa, Bryan, Andrew, Jonathan, Frances, and Rebecca; 11 great-grandchildren, Hunter, Ella, Taylor, Nicholas, Windy, Jessie, Olivia, Brianna, Riley, Camron, McKenna; and 1 great-great-grandchild, Caleigh. Remembered are his wife, Joyce Midgett, his infant daughter, Deborah Lucille Midgett; his sister Peggy Buttrey, brother Dr. Alton Midgett, Sr. who preceded him in death.

His funeral services are being planned at 11 am Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at the graveside in Greenlawn Memorial Park led by Rev. Alton Thomas Midgett, Jr. Military Honors and US FLag Presentation at the graveside. His pallbearers will be his grandsons, and great-grandsons, Walter James, Christopher James, Bryan Midgett, Jesse James, Riley, Camron Gnadt, and Nicholas Noland.

The family is invited to meet at Wilmington Funeral Chapel at 10:00 am Wednesday, September 15, 2021 to follow to Greenlawn Memorial Park, escorted by the Patriot Riders.

Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions can be made to St. Judes Children’s Hospital.
