Robert Taylor Hurbst, Jr., of Wilmington, NC formally of Trinity, NC affectionately known as Bob, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 24, 2023, at the age of 71.
Born on May 27, 1952, in Durham, NC, Bob lived a life that revolved around his passion for classic cars. From tinkering under the hood to cruising down the open road, Bob’s love affair with automobiles spanned a lifetime. he was a 1975 graduate of High Point University where he received his Bachelors Degree in Business.
While Bob’s work experience was deeply intertwined with his obsession for classic cars, it was his genuine interest and expertise that set him apart. He could talk for hours about engines, bodywork, and everything in between, captivating anyone lucky enough to be caught in his tire tracks.
In addition to his love for cars, Bob attended the MCC Church, where he found solace and camaraderie amongst like-minded individuals. True to his character, Bob had an unwavering commitment to his close friends, who mourn his loss alongside him.
Bob will be reunited in eternal rest with his late father, Robert Taylor Herbst, his mother, Margaret Sawyer Herbst, and his brother, Paul Sawyer Herbst. Together, their ashes will be scattered into the vast Atlantic, where the sea will forever embrace them.
As per Bob’s wishes, no formal services will be held. Instead, we can honor his memory by reminiscing about the good times shared, the laughter exchanged, and the joy he brought to our lives. Each time we spot a classic car, we can’t help but think of Bob, knowing he’s still riding shotgun in our hearts.
Though their journey has come to an end, Bob’s legacy lives on in the beautiful memories he leaves behind. Farewell, Bob, may the roads you travel now be endless and filled with the sound of roaring engines.
