Robert W. “Bob” Hanson, age 78 of Wilmington passed away Sunday, January 28, 2018.

Bob was born on August 17, 1939 in Queens, NY. He was the son of William Henry Hanson and Beatrice Lamouree Hanson.

Bob graduated from Davison Elkins University in West Virginia, and was retired from Federal Paper/International Paper Company. Bob served his county in the US Army and had retired from the US Army Reserve with the rank of Major. Bob was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Wilmington. He enjoyed playing golf and was a former member at Pine Valley Country Club.

Bob is survived by his wife, Pattie Hanson; one daughter, Beth Lucas and husband Paul of Cary, NC; two sons, Ken Hanson of Wilmington and Terry Hanson of St. Augustine, FL; three grandchildren Evan, Madison, and Jacob Lucas; brother Bruce Hanson and sister Gail Polhein.

A memorial service will be held 2 pm Friday, February 2, 2018 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. A reception will follow in the Church Parish Hall.

    Words can’t begin to convey how beyond sad Earl and I are to hear that one of the best all-around great guys has left us. Bob was my first “real” boss, a mentor, and a friend. I’ll always carry some real pearls of wisdom like only Bob could give. He was one of a kind and we will miss him. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this difficult time.

    I've known Bob since our days as fraternity brothers at Davis and Elkins College. I used to say "We were brothers from another mother." The truth is, I loved him like a brother. I will miss every aspect of his personality that made him a very special person. We shared many annual gatherings of the "Fab Five", Hanson, Elias, Locke, Mc Callum and Livingston. Rest in peace Bro. Linda joins me in sending our thoughts and prayers to Pattie and the family.
