Memorial Gifts & Donations

Robert Warner Croom of Hampstead, NC, better known as Bob or Pappy, passed away peacefully at the age of 76 on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. Born on December 14, 1947, in the lively city of Gary, Indiana, Bob’s journey took him far and wide, and despite many challenges left a trail of sparks and laughter wherever he went.

Bob proudly retired as a Certified Welder after his aneurysm in 1986, leaving behind a legacy of craftsmanship that will stand the test of time. He even took his skills underwater, proving that welding doesn’t just happen on dry land.

Bob was passionate about Jesus Christ, his wife and kids, doo-wop music, and crafting model airplanes out of cereal boxes, toothpicks, and whatever else he could find.  He played drums in a band and boasted about it well after he had to quit playing.

Bob’s magnetic personality drew people to him like metal to a magnet. He was a member of Blakes Chapel Advent Christian Church, where his larger-than-life presence lit up the pews every Sunday. Bob’s impact on those who knew him was immeasurable. His genuine kindness and quick wit brought joy to countless lives.

In his personal life, Bob experienced his fair share of loss. His beloved wife of 43 years, Debra Anderson Croom, preceded him in death in 2018. Joining her in eternal rest are his parents, William Howard Croom and Mary Jane Loomis Croom, his sister Margaret Ann Croom, as well as his father in law Bruce Hooks Anderson. While their absence is deeply felt, Bob leaves behind a cherished legacy that will forever keep their memories alive.

Bob’s spirit lives on through his surviving family and friends. His son M. Brandon Croom and wife Mandy, his daughter Melody C. Hudson, and his brother William Howard Croom, Jr. and wife Jeanette continue to carry his flame in their hearts. Additionally, he leaves behind six adoring grandchildren: Brookelynn, Ezekiel, Bryler, Millie, Penelope, and Maggie. His mother in law, Faye Anderson, and his sisters in law Robin, Dawn, and Wendy along with their children Alicia, Trey, and Allie also mourn the loss of this remarkable man.

To honor Bob’s life, a memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Blakes Chapel Advent Christian Church. Let us gather together to celebrate the vibrant spirit of our dear departed friend, Bob “Welding Wizard” Croom.

In his memory, may we embrace life’s challenges head-on, just as Bob did when he fearlessly faced a new life after a traumatic brain aneurysm and multiple strokes.  He left behind trails of sparks that illuminated our lives.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Blakes Chapel Advent Christian Church.

Rest in peace, Bob. May your soul forever shine like a perfectly welded joint.

What a beautiful tribute to such a beautiful soul. Bob never failed to give me a laugh or remind me of a cake. If I never bake another cake in my life it’s ok because Bob gave me a title than will stay with me forever…,the cake lady…good, good cake. He was always a very special person to me. And nothing makes me happier than to think of the smile on his face when he joined Debbie again. Brandan, Melody, Ms Faye, Wendy and Dawn, thank you all for the small part of his life that you allowed me to share. I will carry those memories forever. May God bless you all and help you find comfort during this loss. My love to you all. .
