Roger Alan Lundquist, Jr. 51, of Trout Run, PA formerly of Wilmington died Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at his home in Trout Run.

Alan graduated from Cary High School and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and North Carolina State University. He was an awarded member of the Taxol Development Team at Glaxo Chemical. Alan was an avid gardener, patron of the arts and loved to travel. He certainly left the world a better place.

Surviving is his mother Virginia Venters Lundquist; sister Mary Katherine Lundquist; brothers John Karl Lundquist, Robert Edward Lundquist, and Mark Andrew Lundquist.

A memorial service will be held 1:00 P.M Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, with Rev. David C. Wade and Rev. Margaret Hockett presiding. Visitation will follow in the Gathering Hall.

    I knew Alan in high school in Cary. I've been trying to locate old friends and only today, March 20, 2023, did I learn of his passing. I'm shocked and saddened with the news. He was a great friend in my teens and early 20's when our life paths were separated. He was another brother from a different mother.

    We've known Alan since 1986; Robert worked with him when Alan was at Glaxo and, among many other things, Alan taught us about the appreciation of wine. At work, Alan was a relentless workhouse; he had an incredible work ethic and was very innovative. As a friend, no one has been more giving. We are shocked and saddened and miss Alan already. He was a remarkable man and I know I won't ever meet another one like him. But, really, we are so glad and fortunate to have known him. He gave us a lot.

    While I had been an acquaintance of Alan’s for several years, I had really gotten to know him better the last few years. To say that he was generous and kind would be an understatement. He had the gift of sharing his extensive knowledge on numerous topics without ever making you feel inferior. I will miss him greatly and hope he has found peace.

    I am saddened to hear of Alans passing. He was a good friend, colleague and neighbor when I lived in NC and knew him from Glaxo and Chapel Hill over a 10 year period. His personality will stay with those who knew him and will forever bring back great memories of times together.     I am deeply saddened to learn of Alan’s passing. He was a caring friend and enriched the lives of all he came across. Even in the toughest of situations, he had a charm that could touch a stranger and quickly bring a smile to their face. I first met Alan when he started at Glaxo in 1986 and enjoyed becoming his friend as he grew his role there into an international expert in clinical shipping through industriousness and passion for his work. He also shared with many passion for the arts, music, fine foods, wine, Formula One racing and natural settings. Alan was a true romantic with a gift for adding the thoughtful touches that made life special. He was very generous with his time, feelings and thoughtful gifts and had a playful spontaneity that led to many Don Quixotesque adventures. I feel blessed to have been a part of some of those journeys and to have been invited to experience the Impressionist settings along Cane Creek and Trout Run. I will always remember his passion for life and his willingness to go the extra mile for others.

    I am so terribly saddened to hear of Alan's death. I have known Alan for over 15 years. He was a very sensitive man and I always felt he honestly cared about his friends and their families. He taught me so much about wine and that was something he truly loved and loved to teach people about.
