Mrs. Rose Pickering, 94, formerly of Fayetteville, NC, passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington, NC surrounded by her loving family.
Rose was born on January 2, 1917 in New York City, the daughter of the late Angelo and Grace Taglialatela. She spent her childhood years growing up in Gloversville, NY.
Rose worked for many years as a sales associate in children’s clothing at Fleishman’s Tiny Town. She enjoyed making friendships with her co-workers and customers. She was a talented seamstress, designing and sewing fashions for herself and family members. She excelled in creating artistic ceramic pieces. She was an active member of the Hope Mills Senior Citizens Club and enjoyed trips to Disney World. She was an excellent Italian cook, famous for her lemon chicken, artichoke dressing and ice box pudding cakes.
Rose was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Gloversville, NY, where she involved her family in church and Catholic School activities. She was a loving mother and grandparent who always put her family first. She will be greatly missed.
Rose, who was lovingly known as “Gigi,” is survived by her daughter, Diane Stewart of Leland, NC; two sons, John D’Alpe (Sue) of Lexington, SC and Paul D’Alpe (Patsi) of Hope Mills, NC; sister, Lilly Brewer of New York; two brothers, Rudy Taglialatela of New York and Fred Taglialatela of Hope Mills, NC; six grandchildren, Lisa Queen, Charles Gold Harrill, III (Lori), Tracy Cannon (Clay), Amber Jordan (Phillip), Cammie Duck (Rob), and Erin D’Alpe; eight great grandchildren, Amanda Davis (Tony), Angelika Allen, Lorin, and Charles Gold Harrill, IV, Mahala and Brooks Cannon, and Lilly and Jonathan Jordan; and one great-great grandchild, Emma Grace Ann.
Visitation will be held prior to the service in the Church Fellowship Hall at 10:00 am, Saturday, December 10, 2011 followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am to celebrate Rose’s life at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1403 Market St., Wilmington, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital, Attention: Tribute Department, P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
