Ruby Wells Lem

Ruby Wells Lem, 93 died September 13, 2010. Born in Burgaw, NC, April 24th, 1917 Ruby was the daughter of J.P. and Chalmas Wells. She is predeceased by husband, David Chow Lem and Granddaughter Leia Lem.

She is survived by her daughter Beverly Lem and husband Bill West of Carolina Beach, NC, sons Robert Dean Lem of Wilmington and David Edwin Lem and wife Sharon of High Point, NC, stepdaughter Mary Jean Hodges and husband Jack of Leland, grandchildren Robert Dean Lem, Jr (Amy), Carl Cliver (Kelley), Tanya Wilson and Daniel Lem of Wilmington, Janelle Lem and Ashley Lem of High Point, Wally Ann Haley, Florida, Colton West (Sonya) of Leland, great-grandchildren Stacey Lem and Celeste Wilson, Melana and Brandon Bridges all of Wilmington, Naomi and Joshua Haley of Florida.

She and her late husband David owned and operated David’s Restaurant, the first Chinese restaurant at Carolina Beach. After he passed away she ran the Golden Anchor Rest Home for several years. Between the ages of 60 and 80 she was a caregiver to numerous residents of Carolina Beach. She loved to cook and was an avid walker. Until May 15, she walked out to the mailbox everyday no matter how many times it took before the mailman arrived. Ruby was a long time member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, a member of the Katie B. Hines Circle, attended Sunday School and sang in the choir. She served meals to the Lions Club for many years until her health declined. Mother is no longer in pain and I’m sure she’s in heaven square dancing and making someone laugh with one of her witty comebacks.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Autumn Care for the compassion and respect that was shown to our mother. Special love and gratitude to all of her nieces and nephews and their spouses for their daily visits and friends of the family for all their love and support through this difficult time.

Visitation will be Tuesday night from 6-8 PM at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Carolina Beach. A service conducted by Rev. Steve Hall will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at St. Paul’s Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gary Teague, Bobby Gurganus, Randy Gainey, Bubba Atkinson, Bobby Schley and Jack Seals.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church or Lower Cape Fear Hospice.

Chris Charles And Jo-Ann Langston says:
Beverly, We were so very saddened to hear. Our hearts are with you. ..."Those we love remain with us, For love itself lives on, And cherished memories never fade, Because a loved one's gone. Those we love can never be more than a thought apart, Far as long is there is memory, They'll live on in the heart." Our deepest condolences, Chris and Jo-Ann
