Rudolph (Rudy) Alliston Jarrell, Jr, 82, of Wilmington, NC, passed away peacefully at home on March 4, 2024. Born on July 27, 1941, in Wilmington, NC, Rudy was the beloved son of the late Rudolph Alliston Jarrell, Sr. and Hazel Arline Weaver Jarrell. Also preceding him in death was his son, Dennis Keith Jarrell.

Rudy was a devoted husband to Carolyn James Jarrell and a father to his children, Dan Jarrell, Tammy Ragan (Sam) and Dennis Jarrell (Cindy). He was a loving brother to Bettie Rowell, Arline Cain, Robert Jarrell, Mary Lee Lewis, and Karen Jarrell.

Left to honor Rudy’s memory are his wife of 45 years along with his children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members and close friends.

In 1959, Rudy enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Bragg as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division.

After serving our country he decided to follow in the footsteps of his father Rudolph A Jarrell, Sr., who retired as Chief Deputy of the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Department. Rudy began an extensive law enforcement career throughout coastal North Carolina working with the Wrightsville Beach Police Department, the Carolina Beach Police Department, the Kure Beach Police Department and the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Department. One of the biggest achievements in Rudy’s career was establishing the Kure Beach Police Department where he later retired in 1989.

During his law enforcement career, Rudy was appointed by the North Carolina Association of Chiefs of Police to the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.  In 1989, he retired as Chairman of the Commission.

Additionally, Rudy received certifications from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for completion of the Justice Executives Program, the Police Executive Development Program, and many other law enforcement certifications.

Rudy was also a passionate entrepreneur owning or managing several local business, such as; Jarrell’s Restaurant, Tuesday’s, Wilmington Hilton, and the Country Squire Restaurant and Inn.

A visitation for Rudy will be held at the Pine Valley Church of God on Thursday, March 7, 2024, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Funeral services will take place at 1:00 PM on Friday, March 8, 2024, at Pine Valley Church of God, followed by the burial in the Hollis family cemetery off Friendly Lane with full Military Honors.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Jarrell, Koen Whitfield, Eric Jarrell, Jimmy Cain, Chris Cain and James Baltezegar.  Honorary pallbearers will be Caseylynn Dobyns, Koryn Bain, Jamie Kelley, Kinsley Kelley, Kyler Kelley, Jennifer Parisette, Klaus Parisette and Soren Parisette.

Rudy will be remembered for his love and devotion to his family, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace.
