Memorial Gifts & Donations

Russell Dean Wilkes, lovingly known as “Bo”, passed away on Sunday December 10, 2023, at the age of 65, in his hometown of Wilmington, North Carolina.

He was born on May 29, 1958, to Andrew T. Wilkes and Helen Moore Wilkes in the same vibrant city he called home throughout his life.

Bo dedicated 35 years of his life to serving others as a Plumbing Technician with New Hanover Regional Medical Center. His commitment to his work and the well-being of others was truly remarkable. Bo’s expertise and dedication left an indelible mark on those he helped, and his impact will be felt for years to come.

One of Russell’s greatest joys in life was his family. He shared 42 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Teresa DeBose Wilkes. Together, they built a strong and loving partnership that served as the foundation for their family. Bo was a devoted father to his children Justin Wilkes and fiancée Rebecca Scott, as well as Devin Wilkes, all of whom reside in Wilmington. His love and support for them knew no bounds, and his memory will forever be etched in their hearts.

In addition to his immediate family, He is survived by his brother Donald Wilkes of Winnabow, NC, and two sisters, Debbie West and Brenda Melton, both residing in Wilmington.  He also leaves behind his cherished granddaughter, Reagan Wilkes, who brought immeasurable joy into his life. Furthermore, leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and a host of dear friends, all of whom were touched by his kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit.

While we mourn the loss of Bo, let us also celebrate the incredible life he lived. His positive outlook, boundless energy, and zest for life were infectious, inspiring all those who had the privilege of knowing him. He possessed a genuine warmth and had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome and loved.

A celebration of Mr. Wilkes’ life will be held at 7:00 PM  Tuesday December 19, 2023 at Northside Baptist Church, 2501 North College Road Wilmington,  where friends and family can gather to honor and remember him. In the meantime,

We encourage those who wish to offer their condolences to visit, where online condolences are graciously accepted.

Russell Dean Wilkes, or Bo as he was affectionately known, will forever remain in our hearts as a shining example of love, dedication, and kindness. May his soul find eternal peace and may his memory continue to inspire us all to live our lives with compassion and Joy.

I have so many great memories with Bo and his family over the last 20 years. One that will always stand out to me, is when my father died, Bo’s son Justin was there with me at the time and after I spent the night in the ICU, Bo was the first person to come and check on my family at 8am in the morning. Bo was a great human, he was everything you could ask for in a father and a friend. I will miss Bo and always cherish the memories from our younger days together. When we were growing up Bo was the perfect mesh of a parent that can show you the ways of life, but in the next instant correct you when you are wrong and made sure you remember. Rest in Paradise BoBo
