Ruth Gertrude Peck


Ruth Peck died on October 24, 2009 at age 85 as she lived her life – on her own terms.

She was born on March 14, 1924 to John J. Ganeles and Jennie Yugend Ganeles who preceded her in death. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Robert Van Rosam, the love of her life.

She is survived by her son Calvin Peck, Jr. and wife Audrey of Carolina Beach, daughter Shirley Whitaker and husband John of Bainbridge, WA, and a brother Burton Ganeles and wife Ophelia, San Marcos, CA, and 3 grandchildren Cody and wife Jill, Alyson and husband Nathan and Kathryn.

Ruth served in the US Navy during WWII, honorably discharged as a Storekeeper First Class in 1949.

She was a member of B’nai Israel Temple, member of A. R. E. M. E. 372 Chapter, Order of The Eastern Star. Ruth served as Worthy Matron once in Virginia and twice in California, and was also a Deputy Grand Matron in Northern California. She was a member of the Daughters of the Nile and WAVES.

Ruth loved playing Bridge, roses, chocolate and good Scotch.

Graveside services will be 2:00 PM, TODAY, Sunday, October 25, 2009 at B’nai Israel Hebrew Cemetery on 18th Street in Wilmington.

Memorial contributions may be made in Ruth’s name to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
