Ruth Sickel Scanlan, 89, entered into rest on Oct. 27, 2013 at Hospice in Wilmington. She is survived by her sister Renee Becker and her brother James Sickel, daughters Barbara Armstrong of Sneads Ferry, NC and Joan Scanlan of Quogue, NY, her son-in-law Jim Armstrong, three grandchildren and their spouses, 5 great grandchildren and her devoted dog LuLu.

She is reunited with her husband of 49 years, Richard Davis Scanlan, as well as their beloved only son Richard Davis Scanlan Jr.

Mrs. Scanlan was married in 1949 at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in NYC and raised her family in Brookhaven, NY before moving to Sneads Ferry in 2001. She worked at Bellport Sr. High School for 25 years and was overjoyed when the yearbook was dedicated to her in 1976. In retirement she volunteered with Meals On Wheels, as well as at local hospitals.

She found joy in golfing with her husband, as well as biking, walking, reading and playing the piano. She was adored by her family and will be greatly missed.

A Memorial Mass celebrating her life will be at her parish St. Jude the Apostle in Hampstead on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013 at 10:30 and all are welcome to attend.

    Ana says:
I am so sorry for your loss. The Bible provides comfort during these difficult times. Revelation 21:3,4 states “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away”. Very soon now, we will never experience losing our loved ones in death. Hope these words give you a new hope.
