Sallie Hardee Johnston, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, peacefully passed away on August 27, 2023, at Lower Cape Fear Life Care. She was born on July 31, 1934, in Conway, South Carolina. Sallie lived a full and meaningful life, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of love.

Sallie dedicated her life to her family as a devoted homemaker. She found joy in nurturing and caring for her loved ones, always emphasizing the importance of love and compassion. Sallie’s faith played a central role in her life, and she was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Leland for over 50 years. Her commitment to her church community was unwavering.

Additionally, Sallie was a proud member of the Goldenrod Chapter #142 Order of the Eastern Star. Through her involvement in this organization, she formed lasting friendships and contributed to the betterment of her community.

Sallie is preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow Wilson Hardee and Ethel Johnson Hardee, her loving husband, Carl Johnston, Sr., her son, Bobby Johnston, four brothers, and a sister. While she will be deeply missed, her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Sallie is survived by her son, Carl Johnston, Jr. (Debbie), her daughters, Sandra Watts (Mark) and Debbie Carroll (Glen), and a daughter-in-law, Joann Johnston along with nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Each one of them carries a piece of her spirit and love.

Funeral services for Sallie will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Leland. The service will be officiated by Pastor Steve Ellis and Pastor Chris Hall. Following the service, Sallie will be laid to rest in the church cemetery. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to Lower Cape Fear Life Care at 1414 Physicians Dr, Wilmington, NC 28401. Your support will help continue the invaluable work of this organization.

Sallie Hardee Johnston will forever be remembered for her unwavering love, dedication to her family, and commitment to her faith. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in eternal peace.

Funeral Service

The funeral will take place on August 30, 2023 at 2:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Leland (Leland, NC) followed by burial at Church Cemetery cemetery (Leland, NC)

    Sallie was my stepmother. She married my father at First Baptist Church of Leland in Feb. 2009 and they lived in Lanvale Forest until he died in Feb of 2014. His name was Francis Orrell
