    John Clarke says:
Very sad to learn of Sam's passing. We grew up just a few blocks apart in Raleigh and played football from junior high school through Broughton. Coach David Riggs of our 1970 State Champion team had tried very hard to locate him to help write his book about the team. We were unsuccessful in our search. If any in the family would like to speak to coach, send me a message via email and will pass along to him. We pass along our deepest sympathy on your loss.

    Jake Pearce says:
I am so very sorry to learn of Sam's passing. I just found out today. We played football together at Daniels Jr. High School. We also got together occasionally to play in our respective neighborhoods. I had tried several times over the pass few years to locate Sam but was unsuccessful. I will remember his smile and determination. I regret very much not having the opportunity to reconnect with my old childhood friend. Prayers to all his family.
