Gifts & Memorial Donations

Sandra Maddox Starling affectionately known as “Mother” age 81, transitioned to the heavens in the comfort of her own home with her family on Friday May 5, 2023 in Wilmington, NC.

Sandy was born on February 8th 1942 in Sermons, Florida to the late D.W. & Elena Maddox. She married Chester Orlando Starling Jr. on August 6, 1960, who was her beloved husband for 62 years at the time of her passing.

Besides spending time with her family and friends, she loved laughing, reading, cooking, gardening, traveling, and watching the birds and critters run around in her yard.

Mother’s energetic spirit was contagious and her passion for caring and serving others are only a few of the things that made her an extraordinary woman. She was genuinely kind and had a unique ability to welcome everyone into her home for refuge. She would give up anything she had to help anyone who was in need, free from expectation of anything in return. She loved God, she loved others, and truly had a servant’s heart that has left an impactful legacy behind.

Surviving are her husband Chester; sons Chester Orlando Starling III and wife Amanda; David Starling and wife Trina; Shane Starling and wife Janet; sister Shirley Rivera; 11 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life 11:00 AM Saturday May 13, 2023 at Global River Church 4702 College Road. Wilmington, NC.

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, 1414 Physician Drive Wilmington, NC 28401, with immense appreciation for the nurses and their compassionate care of our Mother and our family during their time with us.
