Sherrill Gene Allen 72, of Castle Hayne, NC passed away Thursday July 7, 2011 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter.

He was born in Johnston County, NC on August 18, 1938. His parents were the late Lassie Allen and Mary Dunn Allen.

Sherrill was retired from the State of NC with 30 years of service.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years Betty Jo Allen; three children, Gene Allen and his wife Beverly, Todd Allen, and Caitlin Allen; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 2 pm Monday, July 11, 2011 at Wilmington Funeral Chapel.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice,1414 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC 28401 or Alzheimer’s North Carolina, 1305 Navaho Dr., Suite 101, Raleigh, NC 27609.

The family would like to thank the staff of Adult Day Care Services and caregivers Ronnie and Debbie; hospice staff and especially Shawn Johnson; and a special thanks to Charles and Jenny Thompson, Barbara Raynor, and Jason and Tammy Hoffmann.
